The American Idolater

Apparently Amanda Coluccio, Antonella Barba’s friend from the auditions who wasn’t a very good singer and didn’t make it very far, has jumped onto the media bandwagon to try to get her name back in the news.

“Idol” has had its fair share of scandals in the past, but a friend of Barba’s jumped to her defense this week after widely distributed, allegedly doctored photos of the New Jersey native surfaced that appeared to show her performing oral sex on an anonymous man. The pictures were accompanied by a flood of other salacious — though not as graphic — shots of Barba in her underwear, sitting on a toilet, covering her breasts alongside a half-dozen other friends on the beach and posing in various sexy outfits.

I thought the less graphic ones showed up first, and then the other ones appeared — you know, the ones that don’t really look much like Antonella to begin with?

The anonymously posted shots helped Barba become one of the most searched people on the Internet over the past week, but her best friend, unsuccessful “Idol” aspirant Amanda Coluccio of Holmdel, New Jersey, said Monday that the most outrageous ones are fakes. Coluccio told Newark, New Jersey’s Star-Ledger that the less graphic photos are of Barba, but that her friend is not the person depicted in the X-rated shots.

“The really bad ones aren’t her. I’ve studied them,” Coluccio told the paper. “It’s not her nose. She’s never had [acrylic nail] tips [like the woman in the photo] in her life. She’s the least slutty person I know.”

“I’ve studied them”. That’s one of the funniest things I’ve heard related to American Idol, and that’s saying something. I didn’t think those pictures looked much like Antonella to begin with, and didn’t really want to stare at them too long to find out, but Amanda decided to take the time to study them? She couldn’t recognize her best friend without in-depth studying.

And if Antonella — the same girl who posed half-naked in a wet shirt out in public at the World War II memorial — is the least slutty person you know, then you might want to try to find some new people to hang out with. Seriously, what kind of people are Amanda’s other friends? How sad is that?

So, on to tonight. Anyone think that somebody will mention her photos? I’d be surprised, I’m guessing Fox wants to keep that as quiet as possible (which isn’t very quiet considering how many billions of people have seen them already). Besides, what would they say? “Up next, Antonella Barba, who’s nipples you might remember from such places as The Internet.”
