The American Idolater

Could it be true? Could Sanjaya Malakar really have been voted off of American Idol last night? Or was it all some wonderful dream that will end any second now when I wake up to a sad, cruel world that still has Sanjaya on the show?

You do have to feel a little bit bad for the kid. That huge cheer that went up throughout the audience when they announced he was going home couldn’t have felt good. And to be such a bad singer that you drive people to hunger strikes and to boycott Coca-Cola? That’s a heavy burden to bear.

Dialidol got some great results this week. They got the bottom three exactly right, as far as we know — they didn’t tell us whether Blake actually got more votes than Lakisha, they just let him sit down. Dialidol has Sanjaya at the bottom, followed by Blake, and then Lakisha.

Interestingly, they have Melinda Doolittle just above Lakisha. In the results show they made it seem like Melinda was so obviously safe that putting her in either group would give away the answer of which group was the top 3. But if DialIdol is right, Melinda was much closer to being in the bottom 3 than they let us know. If you’re into conspiracy theories, that would suggest that they don’t want her to do well. If she’s close to being in the bottom three, they should find a way to let the public know, so that people feel the need to vote for her next week. As it is, people will assume she’s safe, and she runs the risk of getting low vote turnouts in the future.

But that’s assuming that the top half of the DialIdol predicted results are right. Who knows. For now all I know is that the show got rid of the worst two singers the past two weeks. Well done, show.
