The American Idolater

I know DialIdol disagrees with me, saying that Chris Richardson has a pretty decent lead over everyone else in the race for last place — or, at least, least busy phone line — but the rumors going around are that it’s already been decided that LaKisha Jones is going to be going home tonight.

Apparently the story is that Lakisha actually had the lowest vote total last week, but they sent Sanjaya home instead. And since she was technically already voted out last week, she’ll be going home this week. And that this was all decided well before a single vote was cast last night.

I don’t know if there’s anything to it or not, but I guess we’ll find out. I thought the judges were surprisingly harsh — even Paula — for what was a decent enough performance. In comparison, I thought LaKisha did a better job than Phil or Chris, but the judges were much more positive about their performances. Knowing that this rumor was going around made it a little surreal to hear the judges’ comments last night. To me it sounded like they were just looking for bad things to say about LaKisha’s performance so that they could justifiably send her home tonight.

Anyway, two hours of American Idol? This could get painful. I can’t believe they’re letting Sacha Baron Cohen loose on live television playing Borat. That could make the whole excruciatingly long show worthwhile. Well, that and being able to fast forward through all the boring pop singers who are apparently crawling out of the woodwork for this thing.
