The American Idolater

Let’s just take a look at some random blog post titles (from random people) after Chris Sligh got voted off tonight:

• Okay, American Idol sucks

Yes, that’s more mentioning Sanjaya in the title then mentioning Chris Sligh. This is such a weird season, Sanjaya is his own little reality completely separate from the rest of the show, and at this point might be unstoppable.

I mean, he clearly doesn’t belong up there with everyone else, but each week that he survives just makes it harder to vote him off. More and more people are going to say, “screw it, let’s just vote for Sanjaya as a joke.” The further he gets, the funnier it becomes, especially when one of the better singers like Chris Sligh gets voted off and Sanjaya doesn’t even make the bottom 3.

The whole season is turning into a big joke, and it’ll be interesting to see how far it goes. If it goes too far, the show might not be able to recover. Simon Cowell already said he’d quit if Sanjaya wins, which actually sounds more like a challenge than anything else. Who could pass up an opportunity to see if he’ll go through with it?

Anyway, my apologies to Chris for turning this into a Sanjaya-oriented post, but that’s just the power of his cult of personality and his faux-hawk. They cannot be stopped. Let’s just bow down before him now and get it over with.
